Coral Pearson Revel
I became interested in working with clay after many years of working in
psychology, and in the distant past, fashion design. Primarily I am self-taught, however in 2017 I completed a year course of ceramics from Otago Polytechnic.
Many of my sculptural pieces are figurative, drawing upon body language, gestures and sometimes juxtapositioning features to depict an attitude or emotional expression. There is an endeavour to develop a feeling of liveliness as opposed to likeness, and for a piece to have a life of its own. This tends to evolve during the making as a spontaneous part of the creative process, rather than being purposely sought.
Many of my works are in private collections in NZ and overseas, along with a sculptural piece in the Pah Homestead collection.
